Casey Anthony May Be Free Soon

Tot Mom Gets 4-Year Sentence - But Only A Few Days More In Jail

Casey Anthony's defense counsel Thursday morning attempted to consolidate the four misdemeanor counts of lying to police into one, arguing the lies were all done on the same day.

The lies to law enforcement for which she was convicted (all misdemeanors):

1. Saying Caylee was left with babysitter Zanny (given during a missing person's report)
2. Saying she worked at Universal Studios in 2008 (given during a missing person's report)
3. Saying she talked to Caylee on the phone
4. Saying a she had talked to co-workers at Universal about Caylee's disappearance

Judge Belvin Perry ordered that law enforcement expended manpower and time looking for Caylee Marie Anthony because of the four lies, the search going on from July through December 2008.

He sentenced her to one year in jail and a $1000 fine on each count, all four counts to run consecutive to each other, giving credit for time served.

She could be out by late July or August depending on calculations of time she has served already.

A separate hearing  will be held August 25th to determine costs to be accessed against her for costs of prosecution and investigations.

The judge spent about an hour with counsel to figure out her time already served, including any "gain" time. The date arrived at for Casey's release was Wednesday, July 13. But later the date was pushed back to Sunday, July 17.

(Some observers point out neither date may be correct, and for security reasons the time and date of her release will not be given out to the public by the jail or court.)

Anthony will be free to sell her story and photos, not being subject to laws restricting convicted felons from profiting from crimes since she was acquitted of the murder charges.

Judge Perry advised she has 30 days to file an appeal and Jose Baez told the court she would not have finances to appeal.

She would be eligible for court appointed counsel said Perry, but warned Baez he would have to help her file the appellate documents.

I wonder how long it will be before Casey gets a "reality" show.
