Clewiston's Butch Wilson To Speak At LaBelle Museum On Indian Wars

Florida Indian War Forts Topic Of Museum Program

LABELLE, FL. -- Butch Wilson, curator of the Clewiston Museum, will speak on 2nd and 3rd Seminole War's Fort Center at LaBelle Heritage Museum's November 3 program meetiing at LaBelle City Hall begining at 7 o'clock.  

Wilson's talk will focus on Fort Center, located at the mouth of Fisheating Creek on Lake Okeechobee in Glades county, but will also touch on Fort Thompson in LaBelle, another 2nd and 3rd Seminole Wars military camp located near Lake Flirt's Falls of Thompson on the Caloosahatchee  River.  

Wilson is no stranger to LaBelle Heritage Museum; and his talks on area history provide new insights for local museum patrons.

A short business meeting will follow refreshments after Wilson's presentation.  Joe Thomas will recap LaBelle Heritage Museum's application for a Florida Bureau of Historic Preservations $50,000 Small Matching Grant to move the 1905 H. A. Rider home and 1935 H. A. Rider law office to 360 N. Bridge Street where they will join the 1911 William Hardy Poole General Store as the LaBelle Heritage Museum Complex in LaBelle's Downtown Historic District.
