Hendry-Glades Obituaries

Brunda Sue Futrell Corbin, age 88, died at home on May 2, 2012, of complications from a stroke. She was born on December 19, 1923, in Murray, Kentucky, to Ambie Owen Futrell and Stanley Hammond Futrell. She grew up in Murray and graduated from Murray State Teacher's College (now Murray State University) in 1945. Following graduation from college Sue worked at The Bank of Murray.

In 1948 Sue married John Givens Corbin, her husband of over 61 years. They resided in Providence, Kentucky, until they moved to Florida in 1956. Sue assisted John in establishing a farm supply business in Clewiston and devoted much of her time to being a homemaker and mother to their two daughters, Nancy and Mary.

When in her 60's Sue focused her efforts on her long-time passion, art. She studied drawing and painting and began developing her artistic talent. For the remaining years of her life she painted and encouraged others to develop their artistic talents through the Clewiston Art League. Sue was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughters Nancy Corbin, Bellingham, WA; Mary (Mitchell) Thomas, Clewiston, FL; granddaughter Katherine (Bill) Fabian, of Winter Park, FL and newborn great grandson Philip Jay Fabian, Winter Park, FL. Sue was preceded in death by her husband John and by grandson Philip Corbin Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Clewiston, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Florida Methodist Children's Home, 51 Children's Way, Enterprise, FL 32725. These gifts will be used to provide arts and cultural opportunities for the children.

Patrick "Rick" Harvey Yancey, 39, of Alva, FL, passed away on May 4, 2012. He was born in Ft Myers on November 7, 1972. He was a licensed cosmetologist for many years, and most recently a sales consultant for Beauty Systems Group Florida.

Patrick is survived by Veronica Yancey & daughter, Sky Yancey, parents, Russ (Carol) Yancey and JoAnn (Floyd) Greenwell, step-brother, William Stagner, nephews, Jason (Christie) Yancey and Cody Yancey, niece, Miranda Yancey, great-niece Rylee Anne Godwin and other relatives and friends.

A Farewell Gathering will be held, May 9th from 6-7 PM at the Akin-Davis Funeral Home, Ft Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Hospice or the charity of your choice.
