LaBelle Bridge Affected By Roadwork

One Lane Traffic On SR29 At Times Until Fall
LABELLE, FL. -- The Florida Department of Transportation’s contractor, Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC., starts a 1.4 mile resurfacing and improvement project on SR 29 from SR 80 to CR 731 (Whidden Road) in Hendry County on May 16, 2012. The contractor is placing new asphalt on SR 29, building sidewalk and replacing signals.

In addition, bicycle/pedestrian railing is being installed on the bridge. Crews will begin work with installation of construction signs and silt fence for erosion control. Motorists should expect only one lane of traffic open during milling and resurfacing operations, which are scheduled to occur during daytime hours. Flagmen will be onsite to direct traffic.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway.

Use of driveways may be interrupted for a short period of time while the paving operation moves past the driveway. If driveway interruptions are expected to occur, business owners in the segment of work activity will be notified the day before.

Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are NOT allowed from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

During this project, motorists should expect construction trucks and vehicles to be entering and exiting the roadway. Drivers should anticipate changes in routine travel patterns – and always use caution. Travel times may be longer than usual. Motorists should plan extra time driving in this area.

Project completion is expected in the fall of 2012. Cost is $1.9 million.

A public information meeting will be at the LaBelle Civic Center on May 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
