Three Injuries In Car Crash

Car On Fire After Hitting Tree

LABELLE, FL. -- A driver and two passengers were injured in Hendry county Saturday morning at 12:40 a.m. as the driver lost control of a Mazda on County Road 78 at Elizabeth Street in north LaBelle.

Edward W. Bebon 20, of Clewiston was traveling south on County Road 78, approaching Elizabeth Street in a 2004 Mazda RX8 and lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to negotiate the road curving left, and entered the west grass shoulder of the road and struck a no passing zone sign with its front portion. 

The car began to rotate counterclockwise and struck a tree with its rear portion. Subsequently, it entered a ditch and caught on fire. It came to final rest in the ditch on the west shoulder of the road, facing west.

All the three occupants were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital by Hendry County EMS. Bebon was listed as a trauma victim in serious condition.

Cynthia Frederick, 16 of LaBelle suffered minor injuries as did Sophia Whidden 18 of LaBelle. A blood alcohol test is pending on driver Bebon.
