William Frederick Dies In Crash

PUNTA GORDA, FL. -- William Frederick 32 of Punta Gorda, in a Ford Mustang, was traveling north on Loveland Boulevard in Charlotte County on the single northbound lane, approaching Moses Court, in excess of the posted 35 mile per hour speed limit at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday.

There had been recent rainfall and the roadway was wet. The Mustang entered a patch of standing water covering the northbound lane.

The Mustang traveled toward the right causing the right side to exit the roadway and enter the grass shoulder where it began to rotate counterclockwise as it came back onto the roadway, crossed the center line and entered the path of the Waste Management truck driven by Paulino Ortega, 59 of Lehigh Acres that was traveling south on Loveland Boulevard on the single southbound lane.

Ortega took evasive action by braking and steering the truck toward the right. The right front corner and right side of the Mustang was leading as it traveled northwest. The left front of the truck collided with the right front of the Mustang which was redirected toward the southeast as it rotated counterclockwise and arrived at final rest facing northeast, blocking the northbound lane, immediately south of Moses Court.

The truck exited the roadway and crashed into a stand of trees on the west shoulder, arriving at final rest facing southwest.

Frederick was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ortega and his passenger Carlos Galvez, 45 of Punta Gorda reported only minor injuries. No criminal charges are pending.

The Florida Highway Patrol requests that anybody having information about this crash call 239-344-1730.
